4 Important Factors to Consider When Investing in a Liquid Nitrogen Freezer

Sam Gomez

Whether you are in the food packaging business or pharmaceuticals, having access to equipment that can flash freeze products and ingredients can revolutionize how you do business every single day. However, investing in a good liquid nitrogen freezer can be a cumbersome ordeal. Between spiral and tunnel types, an array of sizes to choose from, and many variations of features, it can be difficult to figure out which liquid nitrogen freezer is the best for your place of business and business practices. Take a look at a few important factors to consider while you shop to help you make the best investment.

What is the net cost efficiency of the freezer?

How expensive will the freezer be to operate? Will those costs fall in line with your production cost expectations and budget? Some nitrogen freezers are more costly to operate than others. For instance, cryogenic tunnel freezers can require more nitrogen than a spiral model that is more enclosed in build and uses less nitrogen.

Is the freezer designed in a flexible way for later expansion?

If you know without a doubt that your business will never expand and the same freezer size will always work out, this may be no concern. But if there is a possibility of future growth down the road, it is best to invest in a nitrogen freezer that can easily be expanded. For example, you may eventually need a larger tunnel freezer setup that can handle more product at once, so look for a model with expansion capabilities.

How reliable is the freezer in general?

When you're buying a liquid nitrogen freezer, it never hurts to get familiar with the brand and how reliable the equipment is that you're considering. It's not all that hard to find reviews on industrial equipment pieces, but if you don't find anything online, try asking around at other companies. Most will gladly share information about the experiences they've had with nitrogen blast freezers.

How much user input will be required for operation?

If you have enough manpower to handle manual freezer operations, you may be fine with a nitrogen freezer that requires constant input from a machine operator. However, some businesses are better served with a blast freezer that does the majority of the operation without a lot of input from a user. Make sure you consider which setup would best fit with your operation before making a decision.
