There Are Pipe Fittings, And Then There Are Pipe Fittings: Why You Need Both

Sam Gomez

Pipe fittings can apply to plumbing of any sort in two different but related ways. While it is more common for someone to fit a pipe with an additional component to connect it to another pipe, it is also necessary to size a pipe to have it fitted. Here is why you need to do both sorts of pipe fittings in your factory.

Pipe Fittings (as in, Measuring Pipes to Fit Together)

It is necessary to measure the diameters of all of the pipes in your factory so that you know for certain that the substances passing through the pipes will fit and that the substances will not get stuck or clog up the pipes. Measuring the diameters of the pipes also ensures that you will get like-size pipes fitting together and that you will not have any issues getting the pipes to connect. This is essential to reducing the loss of substances as the substances travel through these pipes. You would not want any sort of liquid or gas leak in your factory as a result of mismatched pipes ill-fitted together, especially if the pipes are transferring potentially dangerous gases, fumes, and/or liquids.

Pipe Fittings (as in, Connecting Components That Fit Pipes Together)

From elbow joints to pipe valves, you need all of these fittings to make all of the pipes in your factory come together and stay together. The fittings create the final enclosed space between two lengths of pipe and are responsible for specific tasks. For example, a pipe valve hidden within a connecting fitting helps control the flow and speed of the flow of a substance conveyed through that particular pipeline. Pipe fittings of this sort are often male to female connectors, or dual-ended male to single female connectors, although you may also have any combination of male-male, male-female, female-male, and female-female connectors as well, depending on the type of fittings you are using on any one line.

Why You Need Both

You need to know the measurements of your pipes (the first kind of pipe fitting) so that you can purchase the correct size of connectors (the second kind of pipe fitting). All of the pipes in your factory cannot function properly if you do not know how big or small the pipes are, do not know how to fit additional pipes into the lines, and do not know what size or types of pipe connectors you need. Ergo, you need both types of pipe fittings, as mentioned above.
