About Me
organizing a warehouse for safety

Do you have all of the organizational equipment that you need to keep your storage areas organized and safe? If not, now is the time to begin looking into the industrial shelving that is manufactured for businesses just like yours. It was not until I lost a lot of product due to a stack of pallets falling over that I knew just how important it was to have shelving to stack the pallets of goods on. Sure, I was able to file a claim and retrieve some of the lost money, but it had a severely negative impact on my business. Learn more about how I reorganized my warehouse and improved the situation for my business, my employees and my customers.

A Short Look At Typical Plumbing Pipe Fittings

Sam Gomez

The world of pipe fittings is vast and broad, especially when you are looking at pipe fittings used in the plumbing industry. Take a look at some of the most common types of fittings you will find that can be used on plumbing pipes.

Elbow Pipe Fittings

Elbow pipe fittings allow you to add turns or bends in an otherwise straight plumbing configuration. You can find elbows all throughout a home or business where the plumbing is concerned. The elbows that are available can have bends of different degrees. For example, you may find one elbow that has a narrow bend to allow you to run pipes at an obtuse angle, or you may find wide-angled elbows that allow you to create more of a gentle bend in the configuration.

Reducer Pipe Fittings

Reducer pipe fittings are installed when the size of a pipe needs to be reduced down to a smaller size. For instance, if you have a larger plumbing pipe leading to your water heater, but you need to reduce that line to a smaller size so it will connect properly, you would use a reducer to make it work. Reducers are available in all different sizes, and they can serve the reverse purpose if you need to connect a larger pipe as well.

Cross-Type Pipe Fittings

Cross-type pipe fittings have four different openings; one opening on each side of a cross-style configuration. Cross-style pipe fittings are installed when a plumber needs to create multiple outlet points from one pipe. For example, if there is one main water line leading into the house, a cross-type fitting could be affixed to the end of the one pipe to create three other outlets to route water in different directions.

Plug Pipe Fittings

On occasion, the opening of a plumbing pipe will need to be plugged because an outlet or point of entry will not need to be used for water flow. In these cases, it is often most feasible to install a plug pipe fitting, which essentially screws into the pipe and creates a tight plug so nothing can get through. Installing a plug is usually easier than removing a full section of pipe and reconfiguring it. For example, if a pipe ends in a T-shape with two outlet drain lines, it is easy to plug one end of the T so the full pipe does not have to be replaced.
