organizing a warehouse for safety

Do you have all of the organizational equipment that you need to keep your storage areas organized and safe? If not, now is the time to begin looking into the industrial shelving that is manufactured for businesses just like yours. It was not until I lost a lot of product due to a stack of pallets falling over that I knew just how important it was to have shelving to stack the pallets of goods on. Sure, I was able to file a claim and retrieve some of the lost money, but it had a severely negative impact on my business. Learn more about how I reorganized my warehouse and improved the situation for my business, my employees and my customers.

3 Questions To Ask Before Investing In Handheld Bluetooth Barcode Scanners

Sam Gomez

Having wireless scanners in your workplace or place of business allows you to keep track of your inventory in the most convenient way possible. However, investing in handheld Bluetooth scanners is an arduous process, since there are so many different types available. Before you invest in scanners for business purposes, there are certain things you should know about the units you need. Here is a look at three questions to ask yourself before investing in handheld Bluetooth barcode scanners

How portable does the scanner need to be?

Will the scanners be used in a stationary position, such as at a workstation or at a cash register? Or, will the scanners be carried throughout a warehouse all day by your employees? Determine how portable the scanners need to be before you make a purchase, because there are multiple units out there, and not all of them are going to be easy to pack around. Some Bluetooth scanners are quite large and bulky, while there are others that are specifically designed to be lightweight and easy to carry. A few units are small enough that they could easily be carried on a lanyard, on a wrist strap, or in a pocket.

How important is it that the scanner be durable?

If your scanners will be toted around by your business employees all day, potentially dropped on the floor on occasion, and otherwise handled pretty roughly, this is something you really do have to consider when you are selecting the best models. Some Bluetooth scanners only have a basic ABS plastic shell, while others will have a rugged outer case that is outfitted with rubber for shock absorbency along with other protective elements. If there is a possibility that the scanner will go through some occasional abrasion or dropping, it is best to go with the more protected units.

What kind of power source do you prefer?

If you will only be using the handheld scanner on occasion, it may not be such a big deal if the unit relies on regular batteries. However, if you will be using the scanner daily and will likely deplete batteries daily, it will naturally be a better solution if the scanner has a rechargeable battery. Even though it can be more costly to invest in a scanner that is outfitted with a rechargeable battery, the investment will definitely pay off over the long term because you won't be constantly buying replacement batteries.
